Bribri Indigenous Reserve

The tribe of Bribri is one of the largest indigenous groups in Costa Rica and has about 10,000 members. They originated in the time before the Spanish colonization and are now settled in the southern Caribbean. They preserve their traditions, just like their language, both in spoken and in written form. The most important activity of the Bribri is agriculture, mainly cultivating bananas and cocoa. In addition, fishing, hunting for birds and pig breeding provide the food to maintain themselves. From natural materials, they braid baskets and build musical instruments.
